Sepia Saturday
This is Me at 7 & a half. I do remember it being taken, vaguely. My brother Jerry with his trusty Kodak Brownie made this snap on a Sunday morning before heading out to Sunday School. We had spent Saturday playing in the back yard with the tent. I don't remember if we camped in it or not.
Cute photo. I was wondering why you were wearing a tie before I read your description.
ReplyDeleteKids playing in tents almost seems to be a universal thing. I'm just glad I only had to play in one and didn't have to live in one! And playing in them as a child led to a love of camping until that novelty finally wore off and sanity led to cute cabins with real beds, indoor plumbing, and hot tubs with a view!
ReplyDeleteNow there's a well-dressed camper!
ReplyDeleteForgive me, but you look a little grumpy! Is it because you had to go to church instead of staying at home playing in the tent?
ReplyDeleteI think Deb might be 'on the money'. LOL.
ReplyDeleteI expect your brother wanted to show both you and the tent in your Sunday best. That’s just the sort of tent I would have played in all day too.
ReplyDeleteTents in trees were all the rage when I was a boy but these were rarely in your own garden.
ReplyDeleteYou look great, although a smile would have really made this perfect!
ReplyDeleteI do look a little grumpy don't I? Sorry, but I am smiling now.
DeleteYou're a doll in that shirt, not quite tucked in the back. You look 100% boy.
ReplyDeleteThe combination of frowny face, tie with tie clip, un-tucked shirt, tent with a stick for a pole, makes for a memorable childhood photo.
ReplyDeleteLike other, my immediate thought was that you weren't dressed for camping.
ReplyDeleteA lovely contradiction :)
Can't remember when I last saw a child with a tent in the back yard. Too busy playing computer games or being organized into after school sports and activities. Many kids don't seem to actually have much spare time to smell the roses or p;ay inventive games.
ReplyDeleteOur grandsons in Canberra often have their friends to stay overnight for their birthdays and they sleep in tents in the back yard, and toast marshmallows on the fire.
ReplyDeleteYou look like a little soldier at camp waiting for inspection.
ReplyDeleteyou look like you'd rather have been camping still than going to Sunday School.
