Hello: The weather is a lot warmer and we can thaw out to enjoy ourselves.  We are even talking of going in swimming.  We have been here a week and haven't been in once.  It is a lot better having Gil here.  Now we aren't afraid to go out after dark.  The lake is a mirror today - just as pretty as a picture,
Love,
Ruth

Deadwood

Deadwood, So. Dak.,  as in 1878
This picturesque city in the Black Hills is reminiscent of the wild frontier and mining days.  Mining is still carried on extensively in the region, particularly at lead and great quantities of ore are reduced at Deadwood. The "Days of 76" celebration is held in early August each year, combining a rodeo with early day Gold Rush scenes.  The "Trail of Hickok" is staged several nights during the summer.
Interesting points to visit are Mt. Moriah Cemetery on Hill overlooking the city, containing graves of Wild Bill Hickok, Calamity Jane, Preacher Smith and Potato Creek Johnny.
The Adams Memorial contains historical collection, reminiscent of Pioneer Life in the Black Hills

Grand COULEE DAM

WASHINGTON
pub: C.P. JOHNSON CO

One of the mos spectacular sights in North America is to be seen at Grand Coulee Dam, where the overflow from the now-full Columbia River reservoir, impounded by the 10 1/2 million cubic yard concrete structure, plungers over the giant spillway.  Nearly 2,000,000 gallons of water fall over the man-made precipice with a tremendous roar every second.  Power is being developed in a large power-house flanking the cataract, in which three 108,000 kilo-watt hydro-electric generators, largest ever constructed have been assembled.
