I am showing a George Washington Stamp.
He seems to be popular this week on Sunday Stamps.
This is commemorating the Sesquicentennial of his Inauguration
as First President of the United States.
1789 - 1939
President from 1789 to 1797
Also notice the special Railway Cancellation
from the 1939 New York World's Fair.
Visit Sunday Stamps for other History Lessons.
It's a really beautiful colour! It seems a shame they don't still have railway mail services.
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it would be possible to build a large collection just with George Washington stamps.
ReplyDeleteThat bright pink colour is not what I would associate with Mr Washington!
ReplyDeleteI'm beginning to think that some mail might travel faster if by rail ;)
I've not seen this one before.
ReplyDeleteAh the romance of railway mail, what a great combination of world's fair and railway.
ReplyDeleteHow different are old stamps from the ones we use today...!
ReplyDeleteThat's a pretty bright color!
ReplyDeleteThank you for participating this week.
