Welcome to my collection of Linen Post Cards. When I was a child in the 50s my eccentric aunt Hannah sent Linen Post Cards to our house from her adventures. The simple watercolor effect they have gave me many hours of daydreams from her travels. I hope I can share a few with you. Yes cards and daydreams.
The Capitol is a commanding structure, Corinthian in architecture, built of Colorado gray granite with the interior finished in onyx and bronze. Over 30,000 people yearly visit the dome which, rising 272 feet above the ground offers a splendid view of the city and 150 of snowy peaks.
The giant raw sugar house of United States Sugar Corporation at Clewiston, Florida, is the largest in continental United States. It is capable of producing over a million pounds of raw sugar a day. From sugar cane to sugar crystals requires about eighteen hours of processing.
New Bedford, Mass A Ship that will never sail Half-sized model of the "Lagoda" in the Jonathan Bourne Whaling Museum shows every detail of the construction, rigging, and equipment of a vessel of nearly a century ago. "Oft you may look but all in vain. You ne'er will see her like again."
The Capitol of the Empire State, the seat of government for more than 10,000,000 people, the largest population by far of any state in the Union. The ground for this building first broken December 9th, 1867, and the cornerstone was laid June 24th, 1871, and completed as it stands today in 1898, at a cost of nearly $25,000,000. It is a gigantic structure, 300 feet north and south and 400 feet east and west covering an area of 3 acres, and is 155 feet above the river. It is constructed of gray Maine granite, with red capped towers, and the sub-base extends down 19 feet, 4 inches, and contains 735,000 cubic feet of stone. This base is divided into 144 different compartments used for heating, storage and ventilation purposes. It contains the western staircase, which alone cost nearly $2,000,000 and is the most beautiful staircase in the world. It is considered one of the most remarkable buildings in the country.
