The Smithsonian Institution is located on the Mall near 10th Street.  It was created by Act of Congress in 1846, under the terms of the will of James Smithson to found an establishment for the "increase and diffusion of knowledge among men," under the name of the Smithsonian Institution

The disc which weighs twenty tons was poured at

Corning Glass Works, March 25, 1934.

Cincinnati Union Terminal and Fountain, Cincinnati, Ohio


 

The main concourse of the Union Terminal, built
at a cost of $41,000,000. is semi-circular in shape,
and the right and left hand sides of the dome
contain the largest silhouette mosaics in the world,
the left hand mural portraying the history of transportation
and the right hand , the growth of Cincinnati. 
It also contains information and ticket windows,
retail shops, restaurant facilities, etc.

Arrive here about 5:30 this morning- made all connections but the crowds were terrible.  I feel as if someone had pummeled me.  That train in St. L. had already loaded 1/2 hr. before e got there - so standing room only.  Two soldiers squeezed me in with them - so we rode, All aisles were crammed.  Thanks for everything.

Buick- 1908, the Henry Ford

Museum and Greenfield Village,

Dearborn, Michigan

 

 

This sturdy five - passenger Buick Model "F"

sold for $1,250.00 in 1908.  The name of Buick

is one of the few that survived in a field

of more than 2,500 makes during the period

the automotive Industry went through its "growing pains." 

This 20 horsepower Buick was produced in the

fifth year of the company's operation.

Built prior to 1768, is in a most excellent state of preservation, and today has the same doors, windows, locks, etc. which were here when it was occupied by Washington.

Jennie Wade

House and Monument,

Gettysburg, PA.

Jennie Wade was the only citizen of the town of Gettysburg who was killed during the three day's fighting there.  While attending to household duties at her home she was killed by a bullet on the morning of July 3rd, 1863.  The monument marking her last resting place, is in the Citizen's Cemetery, nearby.  The house is now used as a museum and contains many marks of the great conflict.
