The City of Alexandria is so closely identified with George Washington That it could easily be called his hometown. Mt. Vernon is but 7 miles away,but he maintained a town house and owned considerable property in Alexandria, and here also most of his best friends lived. Alexandria is today a great railroad and shipping center, but its great interest for the visitor is is historic significance.
