"ON THE TOWN"

On NEW YEARS EVE, 1975/1976 I moved to MANHATTAN, Greenwich Village, West Village on Jane Street.  The temperature was cold. I remember Snow Flurries that night.  How exciting for a New York arrival.  I spent New Years Eve with good friends just Uptown of Times Square. Could see the crowd in the Square from the windows of the Penthouse apt. high above the mob in the street.  Great View. Good Times.  Nice being Young.  Wow!~Long Time ago.

 <HAPPY NEW YEAR 2013>
This is my favorite meeting spot in the "Big Apple".  Everyone knows this Atlas Landmark in Rockefeller Center.  Meet you there.  Hope you enjoy the visit.
Wow! someone had the same idea for a Happy New Year Greeting over 100 years ago.

I was lucky enough to spend a week in the Plaza many years ago when I was working in Regional Theatre.  We did a show in Boston for Civitan International and they put us up in the Plaza after for a treat.
Yes it was quite nice.
We got hooked up with a preview private screening of the upcoming movie

FABULOUS FLORIDA FAVORITES

The vegitation or plant life in Florida has always amazed me.  Even just a normal palm tree. Think about it, its basically a stick with some plumage at the top.  How does that happen?  Anyway a travelers palm has an unusual growth pattern also.  It fans out like a hand with fingers all in a straight line.  Pretty much looks like a senoritas fan. We also know them here in Florida as White Bird of Paradise.  Notice the blooms above the head of the lady.

This is another Christmas Card by E.G. Barnhill. Both cards I have show are early cards by Barnhill printed in Saxony.

THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS

E.G. Barnhill specialized in publishing post cards, greeting cards and pictorial  photography of Florida from 1914-1932.  The printing of his early cards was done in Germany.  He published, photographed, and hand colored his cards himself.  Most of his cards were printed by the Albertype Company of New York.
He met Edward S. Curtis when he was still in his late teens.  While working with Curtis, he learned the "goldtoning" photo process using uranium dyes.  He experimented with this process from 1914 until the mid 1920s.
In his early adulthood, E.G. Barnhill traveled a good bit in search of employment.  He had acquired skills of the photographic trade from his father and was an apprentice to a prominent photographer in Palm Beach, Florida in his early years.  He quickly became a celebrated photographer, and at the age of  nineteen established his own business in St. Petersburg, Florida, which he operated for many years.

I don't notice them any more but I had a neighbor in Miami that had a giant bush in her front garden for years.
Maybe they fell prey to Hurricanes I'm not sure.

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Take a look.  I received this work of art in the mail the other day.
It was sent to me for the Post Card Club I belong to.
I have to find out more about Steve & Patty Howell.
This is spectacular don't you think?
Best wishes to Steve & Patty
Where did they come up with all this material?  I have only recently started noticing how beautiful Christmas Seals are.  They have included 4 fantastic ones. One is dated 1931 one 1954 another 1960 and finally 0ne from 1970.  Also included 3 great Christmas usps stamps and a couple wonderful cancellations.  The card itself is a vintage Christmas Greeting card ca. 1920s.
Greeting on front:
MERRY CHRISTMAS
And if good wishes good can bring.
Mine are with you in everything.
Glad to share this with my club members and with you.
This is the first Christmas seal I came across and was captured by it.
It is from 1927 and the artwork is by Maxfield Parrish.
I have a couple more now.

Here are two other Christmas seals I found
1941 & 1945
