This is Me at 7 & a half.  I do remember it being taken, vaguely.  My brother Jerry with his trusty Kodak Brownie made this snap on a Sunday morning before heading out to Sunday School.  We had spent Saturday playing in the back yard with the tent.  I don't remember if we camped in it or not.

This is my contribution to this weeks Sepia Saturday Theme.

This is a black and white photograph taken by my 

older brother Jerry sometime in the mid to late 50's. 

It comes from a Hopkins Family Reunion.

  I was in attendance but do not remember this moment.

I think it most likely is a state park in Texas 

maybe Lake Bonham State Park.  

These are some of the Hopkins Girls "chillin" 

on a hot August afternoon.

to see the tulip festival.  Four of us came up Thursday.

Instead of Linen Post Cards I am participating in Sepia Saturday.  

It's a review of images from our past.  These are personal photos of family and friends.

"HAPPY DAYS"

By the mid 50s 

Men's Hairstyles became very important 

for your image.

And they could change from one day to the next 

with the help of a little dab of "brill creme" 

and the flip of a rat tail comb.

That was my oldest brother Ralph "Pluke" by the way and not Fonzy.

This is him again with a 

High School crush around 1959.

Those are probably flat front bright pastel colored polished cotton high waters with a cuff he is wearing. Up to the minute fashion statement.  My guess is Her Sundress probably matches what he is wearing somehow, maybe a crisp turquoise cotton etc..

Girls wore lots of starched petty coats, 

just one more than her friends did.

For that extra Poof one needs to be in fashion.

This Picture was taken about 1961

at our church Valentines Banquet I think.  

They are friends of Jerry my middle brother.

Fun fact: The shortest girl you see there became a High School teacher and for years has secretly been writing Romance Novels.

I was too young to be out and partying; 

but still had the chance to be exposed to all the 

fun, fashion, and music through my older brothers.

With thousands of Post Cards in my collection I have lots 

of cards showing statues and monuments.  I came by this 

interesting card recently and thought it would be perfect 

for our Sepia Saturday theme this week.

WOOLDRIDGE MONUMENTS

A Weird procession that doesn't move.

Erected 1894 in Maplewood Cemetery

Mayfield, Kentucky

Col. Henry Wooldridge, who died in 1899, 

was the person responsible for the famous 

monuments.  All were carved and placed on 

the grounds before Mr. Wooldridge's death.  

It has been said that the monuments cost 

approximately $6,000. Col. Wooldridge is the 

only person buried in the lot.  His body is in 

the stone vault in front of the statue.  The 

slab on top of the vault has a double-barreled 

shotgun carved on it.

The only thing I could come up with for Sepia Saturday 
involved entertainment, and who better
to entertain than NBC & RADIO CITY.

 Scenes from the RADIO CITY NBC STUDIO TOUR through the National Broadcasting Company's headquarters in Radio City (Rockefeller Center).  Escorted tours lasting one hour leave every few minutes between 9 am and 11 pm every day in the year.

* * * * * *

The huge Auditorium Studio of the National Broadcasting Company is shown seating 1,300 spectators, the studio is 78 feet wide and 132 feet long.  Construction of a studio this size was a real engineering feat since the entire room had to be suspended from ceiling and walls in order to insulate it from outside noise.

 Bringing new memories to old images.

When I was a child I visited this towel shop with my Aunt Hannah, her husband Stud, and granddaughter Jane.  Aunt Hannah was quite a character.  She loved to crochet, seemingly 24 hours a day.  Every towel in our house had crocheted borders.  She bought towels by the pound I think.  They made beautiful gifts for any occasion.  Actually Hannah is the inspiration for this blog.  

She was my Auntie Mame.

I didn't have any Historical Sepia Cards from the Great War, 

100 years past.  But I was able to come up with this card of a young boy in uniform showing respect for the Soldiers 

who have gone before.

The card is dated 5/11/18

Sepia Saturday

Well I hate to admit it

but I am old enough to have some 

family Sepia laying around the house.
Today's theme:
Old photos found in a book.

OK it's not my immediate; but a family related by marriage.  

 It's my father's, sister's, husband's, family.

The Sepia tone photos were found in the home of Troy and Viva.

My oldest brother inherited the home after Viva passed away.  

He never moved their belongings. So when my brother died of a Heart attack everything was just as it was when they lived there.

It is unfortunate that I know little or nothing about this beautiful story.
The two pictures above are only identified as Momma & Papa's picture taken at Porter, Alabama - about 1912 or 1913.  After looking it up Porter is a populated place just northwest of Birmingham, Alabama in Jefferson County.  I grew up in Jefferson County but never heard of Porter before.  It looks like a large family, four boys and two girls.  That would have been Troy's side of the family the Ellisons.  The pictures are taken outside on rough ground, see the tilt of the chair Papa is sitting in.  Looks like some kind of large fabric background hung behind them. 

Oh! I remember  seeing old screen doors like that in my childhood.  

The little boy above is identified as Arthur Allen.   

Don't know any connection to the family.  Do you think he could be the little blonde boy in the front row to the left?  Looks like school books in a strap at his feet. He looks young for school.  Maybe books belong to the one taking the picture.

Look the little girl has books too.  Maybe they are brother and sister.  No identification on her photo at all.  Lord, I did some time in a porch swing myself at my Grandmothers house.  A great place for a child's daydreams to unfold.  Thankfully she looks happier than Arthur Allen.  Maybe it's those new shoes she is wearing. Check out all those buttons.

Now for my favorite.  "Mr. Billy" You can't top this.  The children are Chuck & Grace.  I like to think the two in the wagon are the children in the middle of the front row in the family portrait.  I bet the girl is also the child in the swing.
It's all in my imagination but it makes a good story doesn't it?
