Crater Lake

National Park,
Oregon
Observation Castle and Wizard Island
In Southern Oregon, sixty miles north of the California line, stands a broken remnant of a once mighty mountain.  In the ancient crater bowl of this mountain, lies one of the world's scenic wonders, a lake whose romantic setting and bewitching coloring are unmatched anywhere.  The Lake itself is six and one half miles long and four and a quarter miles wide.  Its depth varies up to 2000 feet.  It is entirely surrounded by steep volcanic cliffs that rise 2000 feet above the surface.
Among the wonders of our earth,
To which the centuries gave birth,
Atop the lofty Cascade Range
Behold a Crater, blue and strange.

And from its rim, our eyes behold-
The ragged mountains, high and bold.
They speak of ages yet to be.
Foretelling an Eternity.

In nature's book a golden page
Records the wonder of the age-
Majestic, sapphire Crater Lake,
A marvel only God can make
Oscar G. Gibson

been there done that!
