The Spanish Art Gallery is typical of mediaeval halls
of Spanish castles, where ancestral paintings were hung.
Here are displayed interesting canvases and rare tapestries
from Spain and Mexico. The unusual ceiling
of golden cloth is especially Castilian.
The Refectorio is like a Spanish Convent dining hall.
The windows portray a Fiesta in the time of the Padres.

and rare bells. This collection is the most valuable
historically of any in the United States.
In the Cloister Art Shop are to be found curious
and interesting articles from all over the world.
The old bells, crosses, Spanish chests,

copper pieces are especially noteworthy.

The Inn embodies many distinctive Mission features.
The row of arches, the keynote of Spanish
Renaissance Architecture, is copied
after those of San Juan Capistrano Mission.
In the Music Room have been reproduced characteristic
features of the old Missions. The brocaded hangings and
antique furnishings greatly enhance this old time effect.
The cathedral organ with its daily concerts
adds much to the charm.

The Patio with its colonnades of slender arches
and overhanging balconies is a distinctively
Spanish portion of the Inn.
In the Spanish Wing are featured niched turrets holding Saints,
tile roofs, balconies of antique iron, and the typical
lattice work in the doors and windows.

The Iron Man
Birmingham, Alabama
Vulcan, iron man, built in 1904 by the Chamber of Commerce for the St. Louis Exposition. It is the second largest statue in America. It weighs 120,000 pounds and is 50 ft. tall. One thumb weighs 170 lbs. Placed on the top of Red Mountain by the Kiwanis Club of Birmingham. The base is of white Alabama marble. Height of pedestal, 120 ft..
