The only thing I could come up with for Sepia Saturday
involved entertainment, and who better
to entertain than NBC & RADIO CITY.
Scenes from the RADIO CITY NBC STUDIO TOUR through the National Broadcasting Company's headquarters in Radio City (Rockefeller Center). Escorted tours lasting one hour leave every few minutes between 9 am and 11 pm every day in the year.involved entertainment, and who better
to entertain than NBC & RADIO CITY.

The huge Auditorium Studio of the National Broadcasting Company is shown seating 1,300 spectators, the studio is 78 feet wide and 132 feet long. Construction of a studio this size was a real engineering feat since the entire room had to be suspended from ceiling and walls in order to insulate it from outside noise.

Important note: This is Radio City Music Hall
not to be confused with NBC (Television studio).
Radio City Music Hall has the Rockettes.
Now "That's Entertainment"
I've been to Radio City Music Hall and it is huge! We went to see the Rockettes in an Easter show several years ago, and what a show it was! They live up to their hype, no question!
ReplyDeleteNice picture. What a big audience! Bet they were in for a treat!
ReplyDeleteOur local Chrysler Hall in Norfolk, Virginia looks a lot like the NBC Auditorium. So true about the engineering of such a space -- you wonder why it doesn't all fall in.
ReplyDeleteI have that black and white card but hadn't seen the linen cards before. I especially like the first one with the audience in the foreground.
ReplyDeleteLovely cards. Those buildings are amazing legacies for future generations.
ReplyDeleteRadio City Music Hall is well-known even here in Aus, but I never knew exactly where it was or what it looked like before, so thanks for that insight. It looks spectacular!
ReplyDeleteI liked your link from piano to entertainment - great postcards.
ReplyDeleteFantastic postcards!
ReplyDeleteI have never been in halls like those and probably won't get the chance now.
ReplyDeleteThat’s quite a theatre (Radio City) and a huge audience.
ReplyDeleteWe were in NYC a couple of years ago and I nearly went on a tour of Radio City but other sites were preferred by the rest of the party. Pity.
ReplyDeleteI've always wondered about where the NBC Symphony Orchestra played. They had some of the best musicians and radio made their sound become a big influence far beyond NYC.
ReplyDeleteHi there Mike, I visited your blog for the first time tonight. Hope to get back soon to catch up with all the musicians.
DeleteThose are fun postcards. I live outside NYC and I've been to Radio City a number of times, but really the history is what is incredible about it.
