HALL OF SCIENCE
CHICAGO WORLD'S FAIR
as seen from the main lagoon.  Notice the carillon-equipped tower, the rostrum at the right, the decorated cloth banner which serves as a background for the speaker, the three levels on which structure is built and the entrance to the medical exhibit at the lower level.  The Hall of Science is 700 by 400 feet.  At night it is brilliantly illuminated by indirect and fluctuating colored flood lights.  This structure is located at Sixteenth St. and the lake, with part of the building extending directly across Leif Erikson Drive--Chicago's famous waterfront boulevard.

WRIGHT BROTHERS December 17th

The Wright Memorial Beacon,
KILL DEVIL HILLS,  N. C.
NEAR KITTY HAWK
The Wright Memorial, of North Carolina granite, is mounted on top of the principal dune of Kill Devil Hills, where Wilbur and Orville Wright experimented with their glider.  On December 17, 1903, near the foot of this hill, they successfully flew their plane under its own power, the first flight of a heavier-than-air machine ever made by man.  At night the beacon from the tower may sweep across four-mile-wide Roanoke Sound from the Birthplace of Aviation to the Birthplace of the Nation.

This video I made on my 2011 trip to D.C. and the Smithsonian.
The movie starts with Orville and Wilbur and goes on from there.

 PALMOLIVE BUILDING, BY NIGHT
A spectacular night-time feature of the new Palmolive Building is the Lindbergh Beacon.  Mounted atop a shining bronze column, 603 feet above Chicago, its two billion candlepower beam is visible to aviators in the air as far east as Cleveland, Ohio, and as far south as St. Louis, Missouri.  Government Surveyors have determined that the location of this beam as being 41* 53'  59 1/4" N.  Longitude 87* 37' 25" W.
