Merry
Christmas
Two Little words of warm regard
Happy through and through
To ride upon this Christmas card
Across the miles to you
From Florida
Information from article by Grandson of E. G. Barnhill, Clayton M. Barnhill:
E. G. Barnhill specialized in publishing post cards, greeting cards and pictorial photography of Florida from 1914-1932. The printing of his early cards was done in Germany. He published, photographed, and hand colored his cards himself. Most of his cards were printed by the Albertype Company of New York. Mr. Barnhill acquired skills of the photographic trade from his father and was an apprentice to a prominent photographer in Palm Beach, Florida, in his early years. He met Edward S. Curtis when he was still in his late teens. While working with Curtis, he learned the "goldtoning" photo process using uranium dyes. He experimented with this process from 1914 until the mid 1920s. He established his own business in St. Petersburg, Florida, which he operated for many years. Mr Barnhill passed away in 1987 at the age of 93.
Happy PFF! I know these postcards too from my father's postcard collection. When he was a young man in the 1950s and worked on a boat, he sent some postcards from Florida to his family. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the history behind the artist and this postcard! You went through quite a bit of work to research this information. Being a history buff I adored reading this. That postcard is quite a find!
ReplyDeleteThank you for joining us for Postcard Friendship Friday. Merry Christmas!
